Description

Deliciously soft and fluffy sourdough cinnamon rolls swirled with brown sugar and cinnamon, perfect for a cozy morning treat.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sourdough starter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  1. Mix the sourdough starter with milk, egg, and sugars until well combined.
  2. Gradually add flour, salt, and cinnamon to the mixture, stirring until a dough begins to form.
  3. Knead the dough well until it’s smooth and elastic.
  4. Place your dough in a warm spot and let it rise for about 60-120 minutes, or until it has doubled in size.
  5. Roll the dough out into a rectangle on a floured surface. Spread the softened butter evenly over the dough.
  6. Sprinkle generously with cinnamon and brown sugar for the filling.
  7. Roll the dough tightly into a log and slice it into individual rolls.
  8. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, nesting them close.
  9. Pour the heavy cream over the rolls.
  10. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
  11. Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For a cream cheese icing on top, add after the rolls are cooled. Roll them tightly to maintain good spirals.
