- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup brown sugar (for filling)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (for filling)
- 1/4 cup light corn syrup
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Mix the yeast with warm milk and let it sit until frothy.
- Combine the flour, brown sugar, and salt in another bowl.
- Add the melted butter and the yeast mixture to the dry ingredients, and knead to form a dough.
- Let the dough rise for 60 minutes in a warm place.
- Melt butter in a saucepan for the filling, then add brown sugar, corn syrup, vanilla, and cinnamon, stirring until smooth.
- Divide the dough into small balls and flatten them slightly.
- Preheat your waffle maker and cook each dough piece until golden.
- Spread the caramel filling between two waffles and gently press them together while still warm.
- Allow to cool before serving.
Notes
These stroopwafels can be made ahead and stored in an airtight container for up to a week. Try different fillings for a unique twist.
