Description

Delightful Dutch stroopwafels filled with a warm caramel mixture, perfect for cozy afternoons.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup brown sugar (for filling)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (for filling)
  • 1/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Mix the yeast with warm milk and let it sit until frothy.
  2. Combine the flour, brown sugar, and salt in another bowl.
  3. Add the melted butter and the yeast mixture to the dry ingredients, and knead to form a dough.
  4. Let the dough rise for 60 minutes in a warm place.
  5. Melt butter in a saucepan for the filling, then add brown sugar, corn syrup, vanilla, and cinnamon, stirring until smooth.
  6. Divide the dough into small balls and flatten them slightly.
  7. Preheat your waffle maker and cook each dough piece until golden.
  8. Spread the caramel filling between two waffles and gently press them together while still warm.
  9. Allow to cool before serving.

Notes

These stroopwafels can be made ahead and stored in an airtight container for up to a week. Try different fillings for a unique twist.
