Description

A delightful treat combining tender cake, sweet apples, and warm cinnamon, perfect for fall gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups peeled and diced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar (for topping)
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon (for topping)
  • 1 cup chopped pecans (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 baking dish.
  2. Whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt in a large bowl until well combined.
  3. Mix together the applesauce, vegetable oil, and eggs in another bowl until smooth and creamy.
  4. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir gently until combined. Fold in the diced apples.
  5. Transfer the batter into the prepared baking dish, smoothing it evenly.
  6. Mix the brown sugar and cinnamon for the topping; sprinkle over the batter and add pecans if using.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow the cake to cool slightly before slicing and serving warm.

Notes
