Description

A quick and easy recipe for sticky chicken and broccoli that captures the savory, sweet, and slightly tangy flavors of your favorite takeout, made right at home.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 cups fresh broccoli florets
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch fresh ginger, minced or grated
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth or water
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (for garnish)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Cooked rice or quinoa for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken and Broccoli: Start by cutting the chicken into bite-sized pieces and washing the broccoli florets. Set them aside, and get ready for the magic to happen!
  2. Make the Sauce: In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, honey, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and cornstarch until smooth. This fragrant sauce will be the star of the show!
  3. Cook the Chicken: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add a drizzle of oil and cook the chicken until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to enhance those flavors.
  4. Add Broccoli: Once the chicken is cooked, add the broccoli florets to the skillet, mixing well. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the broccoli is bright green and slightly tender, creating that beautiful color contrast.
  5. Simmer with Sauce: Pour the prepared sauce over the chicken and broccoli. Add chicken broth or water to thin the sauce if desired and allow it to simmer for 3-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened into a sticky glaze.
  6. Garnish: Remove from heat and sprinkle sesame seeds on top. This adds a delightful crunch!
  7. Serve: Pair with cooked rice or quinoa for a satisfying meal. Your family won’t be able to resist!

Notes

Make-ahead by marinating chicken in the sauce for a few hours. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
