Description

A comforting dinner that wraps you in warmth, this Amish Hamburger Steak Bake features ground beef in a rich gravy, perfect for busy weeknights and family dinners.


Ingredients

  • 2 lbs Ground beef (80/20 blend for best flavor)
  • 1/2 cup Breadcrumbs (Plain or seasoned)
  • 1 Egg (Beaten)
  • 1 Onion (Finely diced)
  • 2 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Black pepper
  • 3 tbsp Butter (Salted or unsalted)
  • 3 tbsp All-purpose flour (For thickening gravy)
  • 2 cups Beef broth (Low sodium preferred)
  • 1 cup Heavy cream
  • 1 Onion (Sliced)
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Mix the ground beef, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, diced onion, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  2. Form the mixture into 6–8 oval-shaped patties.
  3. Brown the patties in an oven-safe skillet over medium heat for about 3–4 minutes on each side.
  4. Sauté the sliced onions in butter until softened, then add flour and stir for 2 minutes.
  5. Whisk in the beef broth and heavy cream, letting it thicken into gravy.
  6. Nestle the browned patties back into the gravy and bake at 350°F for 45 minutes.
  7. Uncover and bake for an additional 15 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  8. Let the skillet rest for about 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

You can prepare the patties and gravy base a day in advance. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
