A cozy and comforting meal of slow-cooked cabbage and savory meat, perfect for chilly evenings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 head of cabbage
  • 1 lb ground meat (beef, turkey, or pork)
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp paprika

Instructions

  1. Begin by removing the core from the cabbage and carefully peeling off the leaves. Set these aside.
  2. Combine the ground meat, cooked rice, chopped onion, minced garlic, paprika, salt, pepper, and oregano in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Layer a few cabbage leaves at the bottom of the slow cooker.
  4. Form the meat mixture into small balls and place them atop the cabbage leaves.
  5. Pour the tomato sauce and diced tomatoes over the meatballs.
  6. If desired, add more cabbage leaves on top.
  7. Cover the slow cooker and let it cook on low for 6-8 hours.
  8. Serve hot and enjoy your unstuffed cabbage rolls.

Notes

Make-ahead tips: Prepare the meat mixture the night before for easy assembly. Feel free to swap rice for quinoa for a gluten-free option.
