Ingredients
Scale
- 8 ounces macaroni
- 2 cups broccoli florets
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups milk
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Cook the pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the macaroni and cook according to the package instructions. During the last 3 minutes of cooking, gently add in the broccoli florets. Drain and set aside.
- Make the roux: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Sprinkle the flour over the melted butter and stir to combine, cooking for about 1 minute until it’s golden and fragrant.
- Add the milk: Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring continuously until the mixture thickens and bubbles gently.
- Add the cheese: Reduce the heat and add in the shredded cheddar cheese, stirring until melted and smooth.
- Combine: Carefully fold the cheese sauce into your drained macaroni and broccoli, ensuring everything is well-coated.
- Season: Add salt and pepper to taste. Mix well and serve warm.
