Description

Deliciously vibrant blue cinnamon rolls filled with chocolate sandwich cookies and topped with cream cheese icing.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ¾ cup warm milk (110°F)
  • 2¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg + 1 egg yolk
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Blue gel food coloring
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup crushed chocolate sandwich cookies (like Oreos)
  • ¼ cup mini chocolate chips
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 23 tbsp milk (adjust for consistency)
  • ½ cup crushed chocolate cookies
  • Extra mini chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the warm milk and yeast. Allow the mixture to sit for 5 minutes until foamy. Stir in the sugar, egg, egg yolk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Gradually mix in 2 cups of flour along with the salt, followed by the remaining flour until the dough forms. Add in a few drops of blue food coloring and knead until smooth. Transfer the dough to a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and set aside to rise for 1–1½ hours.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix the softened butter, brown sugar, and ground cinnamon until well combined. Fold in the crushed chocolate sandwich cookies and mini chocolate chips.
  3. On a floured surface, roll the dough into a rectangle measuring about 14 x 9 inches. Spread the filling evenly over the surface. Roll the dough tightly from the long side, creating a log, and slice it into 12 equal rolls.
  4. Place the rolls into a greased 9 x 13-inch baking dish. Cover and let rise again for about 30–45 minutes while preheating the oven to 350°F. Bake for 20–25 minutes or until golden brown.
  5. In a bowl, beat the cream cheese and softened butter until smooth. Gradually add the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk, mixing until creamy.
  6. Drizzle the icing generously over the warm rolls and sprinkle with crushed cookies and extra mini chocolate chips if desired. Best served warm.

Notes

These rolls can be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated overnight. Allow them to come to room temperature before baking.
